We think, everybody has his own way to travel. Either you already know how you spend your perfect trip or you will learn as time goes by. To get to know us better, we would like to show how we travel and what is important for us.
Travel individually rather than book packages
The base of our way to travel is that we want to get to know the country, the people and their culture. This is why we don’t book vacation packages but always plan our own, individual trip. Before we started this blog, we faced the issue that most blogs or travel guides fitting to this way of travelling are targeted at low budget backpacking. In our view, our vacation should be the counterpart to the daily life of work. It should the time to regain energy, get new impressions and take something with you to feed on when your are back at work. Therefore we would like to have a certain level of comfort during our trips and we are ready to pay a little bit more for this. This does not mean at all that we sleep in 5-star-hotels! We just would like to have a room for our own and with an own bathroom instead of sleeping in dorms. Nevertheless, we love staying at hotels or hostels where you have a common area to get to know other travelers.
Don’t miss out on once in a lifetime opportunities
When we have reached the destination of our trip, we stay with this way of travelling – somewhere in the middle between saving as much money as you can and not having to have an eye on your budget at all. We don’t go to expensive luxury restaurant for dinner but rather like to try local food and local bars and restaurants. In our eyes this is an important part of getting to know the local culture and people. But on the other hand, if there is e.g. an activity that we would like to do, we mostly just do it. We don’t like the feeling of getting back home and then thinking “What if we would have done it?”. Mostly the opportunity does not come back.
Getting to know the country
The main point of our travels is to experience new things. We love to try local food – the more exotic, the better. So we try to find those bars and restaurants that are not located directly at tourist hotspots. We rather go to places where also the local people have their lunch or dinner. This has also the benefit that you can easily get in touch with locals. We made the experience that this is also the best way to get insider tips on attractions, restaurants or activities. It also makes the vacation much more authentic and you get a better feeling for other cultures and people. Of course, in most countries, there are well known attractions and must-do’s. One benefit of travelling individually is that you can make your own time schedule. We always try to visit tourist hotspots early in the morning. This way you sometimes have them for your own or at least they are much less crowded and you can explore them with less stress.
Respect the locals
To be honest, German tourists did not have the best reputation in other countries. Some just act like they own the place, wherever they are. This is a behaviour we can’t stand and that cuts you off the best part of travelling – getting to know the locals. Therefore we always try to be kind to all people, be it tourists or locals. We try to understand local habits and adapt to them. After all, we are just guests in another country and should respect local rules, traditions and habits while having a great time travelling.
